Ruth (Dotson) Ferrell

Ruth “Dotson” Ferrell, 71, of Hazard, KY, formerly of Phelps, KY, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center in Hazard, KY.  She was born October 23, 1946 in Phelps, KY, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Dotson.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Virgil Ferrell; two brothers; Elmer “Buddy” Dotson & Ralph Dotson; four sisters: Marie Coleman, Ernestine Fuller, Jane Fields, and Reba Short.

Ruth was a member of the Phelps Free Pentecostal Church.  She was a homemaker and a good caretaker of the sick.  She loved to cook, bake, and tend to her home.  Ruth enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren & making her family happy.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter: Mary Briggs (Gordon Stanley) of Hazard, KY; stepson: Ted (Ranae) Daniels of Paintsville, KY; one sister: Jettie Dotson of Dearborn, MI; a special brother-in-law: Randy (Laurene) Ferrell of Morehead, KY; one granddaughter: Kearstin (Steven) Whitt of Rawl, WV; two great grandchildren:  Christian Coleman & Dexter Safford; and a host of friends & family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Reverend Marvin Casey officiating.

Burial will follow in the Howell Cemetery at Island Creek, Pikeville, KY.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. Monday until the time of funeral services at the funeral home.
