James Blankenship Obituary

James Ransom “Sweet Chuck” Blankenship age 49, of Phelps, KY, passed away March 2nd, 2024, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in South Williamson, KY on April 27th, 1974, a loving son of the late Ransom and Bessie Marie “Young” Blankenship.

James worked as a logger and was of the Church of God faith.  He enjoyed fighting chickens, four wheeling, hanging out with his friends, and drinking a good cold Budweiser.  He loved singing and listening to bluegrass, and country music.  James loved his nieces and nephews like his very own children.  He was like a daddy to them, and like a grandfather to his great nieces.  James was always there if anyone needed him.  Two of his greatest attributes were his love for animals, especially his pit bulldogs, and kindness to people.

Those surviving to honor James’s memory include his girlfriend, Heather Estep of Phelps, KY; sister, Anita Marie Blankenship of Varney, KY; special aunts, Mary Ann Young, Marilee Borum, Judith Showalter, and Robin Blankenship; special uncles, David Showalter, Richard and Monty Blankenship; nieces, Montana (Matt) McPeeks of Phelps, KY; nephews, Charles Ransom Blankenship of Pikeville, KY, and Colton Newsome (fiancé, Madison Newsome) of Varney, KY; special cousins, Craig Borum, Jessica Borders, Mary Combs, Carl Hamilton, and Becky Cline; twin great nieces, Mara Leigh and Zora Marie McPeeks of Phelps, KY.

James had several special friends, Franklin Conn (Tonya Belcher), Denton Wolford, Big Mike New, Johnny Robinette, and Roy Lynn (Betty) Hunt.  Also, a host of extended family & friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, & Tuesday March 4th & 5th, 2024 from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home in Phelps, KY with special services held Tuesday night at 7:00 P.M.
