Anna Chapman Obituary

Anna Marie “Smith” Chapman, 88, of Phelps, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 24, 1931 in Coleman, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Sidney and Elizabeth “Boyd” Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Ervil James Smith, and her second husband Otto Chapman; she was also preceded in death by her daughter: Kathy Ann Smith; a grandson, Joshua Ervil Smith, four sisters, Della Mae Baker, Pauline Stump, Francis Jean Michaliszyn, Jacqueline Smith; one great grandchild: Hunter Jenae Lell; and one infant brother, John Sidney Smith. Anna Marie was a member of the Peter Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother. She was a teacher who loved and cared for her students deeply. She was a high school Valedictorian. Anna Marie was also a wonderful cook and seamstress. She was the happiest woman her family ever knew. Anna Marie is survived by her sons Randy (Theresa) Smith of Phelps, Kentucky, Mickey James Smith of Phelps, Kentucky and daughter Sandra Jean Hunt of Feds Creek, Kentucky. She is also survived by sisters: Elizabeth (Nick) Proietto, Pennsylvania, Patricia (Kenny) Wagner Phelps, KY, Billie Jane (Roy) Hatfield Phelps, Kentucky, Virginia (Ed) Hawkins Elkhorn City, Kentucky, Audrey June (Tom) Smith Phelps, Kentucky, and two brothers: Johnny (Carolyn) Smith, Missouri, and Robert Lawrence (Lucy) Smith of Richlands, VA.

She is survived by six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Marie is also survived by her step children and step grandchildren. She has two step-daughters (Brenda Bevins & Sandy Hatfield), four step sons: Roy Lee Chapman, Larry David Chapman, Morgan Chapman, Hubert Chapman. She is survived by a large family that loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Elders Jimmy Lee Smith, Steve Kender, & Randal Thornsbury officiating.  Burial will follow in the Richard D. Smith Cemetery at Smith Fork of Phelps, KY.
