Billy Joe Irick

Billy Joe “Bill” Irick, 70, of Phelps, KY, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at his residence. He was born February 27, 1949 at Feds Creek, KY, a son of the late Carl & Lura “Griffith” Irick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Billy Craig “Bub” Irick; one brother, Everett (Birdie) Irick; one nephew, William “Weo” Irick; one niece, Stephanie Robinette; and his dog, Blackjack that he loved so much.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. He was also a disabled retired coal miner having worked for Chisholm Coal until 1997. Bill was a member of the United Mine Workers of America, Phelps VFW Post 10922, and was of the Church of God faith. Bill was the cherished husband of 49 years to Doris Jean "Daugherty" Irick, and was a loving daddy, grand paw & great grand paw. He was a Mr. Fixit, having the ability to repair most anything. Bill loved fishing & woodworking in his free time.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife Doris Jean "Daugherty" Irick of Phelps, KY; one daughter, Valerie (Larry) Stevens of Phelps, KY; two brothers, Bruce (Janet) Irick of Feds Creek, KY, Ervin Irick of Phelps, KY; six sisters, Nola (Freddie) Fields of Feds Creek, KY, Peggy (Roy) Robinette of Kimper, KY, Hazel Ramsey of Cynthiana, KY, Gay (Robert) Stump of Phelps, KY, Ann (Frank) Layne of Versailles, KY, Venita (Terry) Dotson of Wallingford, KY; three grandchildren, Joel Irick of Lexington, KY, Courtney (James) Dotson of Hurley, VA, Blake Stevens of Phelps, KY; one great grandson, Brantley Irick of Pikeville, KY, and one great grandson on the way, Jayce Dotson, who Bill couldn’t wait to meet. Bill will also be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, family & friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Reverends Frank & Harold Layne officiating.

Burial will follow in the Daugherty Family Cemetery, Phelps, KY.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Monday & Tuesday at the funeral home with special services nightly at 7:00 P.M.
