Emzy Blankenship

Emzy Blankenship, 82, of Freeburn, KY, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Pikeville Medical Center.  He was born May 30, 1937 in Phelps, KY, a son of the late Roscoe & Gracie (Lester) Blankenship.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine (Coleman) Blankenship; two sons, Greg “Flash” & Stan Blankenship; four brothers, Virgil, Harold, Foy, & Willard Blankenship; and four sisters, Gladys Layne, Orpha Ogle, Vira & Wanda Blankenship.

Emzy attended The Lord’s House at Phelps, KY.  He was a retired coal miner from Chisholm Coal where he was a section boss for over 25 years.  In his free time, he loved to work on old cars and trucks, rebuilding and restoring them, and working at his car wash where he could talk and visit with his customers.  Family to him was always first, because he loved them all so much, and he had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. 

Those left to honor his memory include one son, Chris Blankenship of Freeburn, KY; one brother, Garney (Cheryl) Blankenship of Warsaw, IN; one sister, Katherine (Sam) Remfrey of Warsaw, IN; seven grandchildren, David (Tamara) Blankenship of Chattanooga, TN, Johnny (Donetta) Dotson of Mount Sterling, KY, Amanda Dotson of Mount Sterling, KY, Sarah (Deshawn) Pettway of Lexington, KY, Rachael Blankenship of Lexington, KY, Tate Blankenship of Louisville, KY, Haley Blankenship (Cory Barbour) of Louisville, KY; thirteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces & nephews.

Services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Reverend Raymond Ogle officiating.  In keeping with Emzy’s wishes, cremation will follow & burial will take place later in the Abes Branch Community Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M Saturday at the funeral home.
