Junior Ray Mitchell

Junior Ray Mitchell of Freeburn KY departed this life Sunday July 19, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Center of Phelps, KY. He was born November 2, 1947 in Mingo County, WV the son of the late Alex and Anna Mae “Hatfield” Mitchell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son: Peyton “Mikey” Mitchell and two brothers: Edward and Clarence “Dommer” Mitchell. He was 72 years old.

1. Junior was a US Marine Corp veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He was a retired coal miner having worked in the coal industry for 47 years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. He also had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed being outside taking care of his animals. Junior was a neighbor to everybody and wanted to feed anyone who
2. happened to stop by for a visit.

Those remaining to honor his memory include his loving wife of 50 years: Ethel Mae “Chapman” Mitchell, two sons: Alex Mitchell (Denise Isom) and Tony (Kirsten) Mitchell, brothers: Johnny(Debbie) Mitchell and Paul (Lynn) Mitchell, sisters: Sussie (Noonie) Dotson, Janice Thacker(Kenny), Sally Dotson, Georgie (Alan) Sturgeon, Shelia (Larry) Cutlip, Wendy (Neal) Ratliff, brother-in-laws: Randy (Vickie) Wood and Carl (Jenny) Chapman, a special daughter-in-law: Melissa Mitchell, grandchildren: Alexis “Mitchell” (Daniel) Brown, Taylor, Havanna, and Braxton Mitchell, Bailey “Boo” Norman and Jonna Mitchell, special friends: Howard and Shawn Norman, Roscoe Church and Henry Layne.

He is also survived by a host of other family, nieces, and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. at the Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps, KY with the Reverends: Benny Freeman, Mike Ashby, and Randy Wood officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens Mausoleum of Huddy, KY with military honors

conducted by the DAV Chapter 141.

Visitation will be  at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00-10:00 P.M.

 with special services at 7:00 P.M.
