Roger Lee Hackney of Phelps, KY passed away Tuesday September 29, 2020 at his residence. He was born November 23, 1944 in Phelps, KY, the son of the late Turner and Pearl “Dotson” Hackney. He was 75 years old. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother: Alvin Hackney, and two sisters: Della Mae Smith and Annette Casey, and a brother in law Ralph Casey.
Roger was a family man who loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and was a member of the Jamboree Church of God. In addition to being a coal miner who worked for KY Carbon and a member of the UMWA, he was also a carpenter, who with the help of his brother Alvin, built the Phelps Hornets Restaurant and the Phelps Federal Mine Inspectors Building. Roger also enjoyed Nascar racing and was an avid sports card collector.
Survivors remaining to honor his memory include his wife of 47 years: Elizabeth “Hall” Hackney, a son: Brian (Jessica) Hackney of Phelps, KY, a sister in law: Bobbie Hackney of Phelps, KY, a brother in law: Alvis Smith, a special nephew: Mike Hackney, three grandchildren: Jada, Hailey, and Isaiah Hackney and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Jamboree Church of God of Phelps, KY, Friday, October 2, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. with the Pastor Larry Blackburn and Reverend Benny Freeman officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dotson Family Cemetery of Jamboree at Phelps, KY.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00-10:00 P.M. with special services at 7:00 P.M.
