Mary Jane “Hunt” Rife, 79, of Stopover, KY, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Pikeville Medical Center. She was born February 9, 1939 in Hurley, VA, a daughter of the late Jessie & Nellie “Hurley” Hunt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Walter Junior Rife; one daughter: Betty Sue Casey; two brothers: Arvil Hunt & Doug Bryant; and five sisters: Vernie Hurley, Ethel Wolford, Thelma Dotson, Barbara Blankenship, & Rose Mary Hunt.

Mary was a homemaker and a member of the Stopover Church of God. She was also one of the best cooks to ever run a kitchen & loved cooking for others. Mary was all about family. Her husband, children, grandchildren, & great grandchildren meant the world to her. She loved spending time with them, especially going out to dinner & shopping with them. Mary raised a large family and was a mother to many others as well. She leaves a legacy of love & memories to be treasured by her family for many years to come.

Survivors include four sons: Christopher (Tracey) Rife of Stopover, KY, Charles (Ronda) Rife of Cynthiana, KY, David (Shelly) Rife of Phelps, KY, Jeremy “Bo” (Jackie) Rife of Hurley, VA; three daughters: Patricia (Benny) Smith of Stopover, KY, Carol Ward of Cynthiana, KY, Jaqueline (Harold) Layne of Stopover, KY; four brothers: Buddy (Delphine) Hunt of Bull Creek, WV, L.C. (Pauline) Hunt of Stopover, KY, Thomas (Ruth) Bryant of Cynthiana, KY, Randy (Carol) Hunt of FL; eight sisters: Hazel Dotson of IN, Christine Freeman of Chicago, IL, Merline Blankenship of Hurley, VA, Eunice Prater of Stopover, KY, Jewel Blankenship, Thermal Schoolfield, Bea Charles, & Sandy Lilley, all of Cynthiana, KY; twenty grandchildren: Corey, Stacy, Skylar, Justin, Kaeleigh, Kevin, Daniela, Darin, Mary Beth, Charlotte, Charly, T.J., Dustin, Cody, Pamela, Adam, Wesley, Ashley, Jordan “Bubba”, & Peyton; thirty six great grandchildren: Joey, Jaylen, Daria, Jacob, Kinzer, Ava L., Danni, Gunner, Taylin, Emalynn, Hunter, Kyra, Laykyn, Riley, Carli, Davy, Keaton B., Haylee, Rylan, Gage, Isabella, Keaton W., Kynleigh, Sadie, Sydnee, Ava W., Colten, Addison, Tayton, Waylon, Pailyn, Gregory, Amber, Austin, Jade, Stanley; and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the Stopover Church of God with burial following in the Rife Cemetery, Upper Elk Creek, Hurley, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 6:00 P.M. Monday & Tuesday at the church with services nightly at 7:00 P.M.

Officiating ministers will be Revs: Harold Layne, Larry Rife, Delbert Hurley, & L.C. Hunt.
