Myrtle Evelyn (Mounts) McClanahan

Myrtle Evelyn (Mounts) McClanahan of Majestic, KY, was called home on November 24, 2017, just minutes before midnight at her residence on Mounts Bottom where she was born and raised. Myrtle's husband, daughter, and two sons held her hand and comforted her in the hours just before her journey.

Myrtle Evelyn McClanahan was born on July 22,1940 to the late David Charles (D.C., "Bud") Mounts and the late Nannie Mapes-Mounts. Myrtle is also preceded in death by: an infant son, Earl Jr.; three brothers Thomas, Raymond and Lawrence Mounts; two sisters, Polly Mounts and Chloe Belle Mounts.

Myrtle is survived by: her two sisters, Edna McIntosh and Loraine Ryan, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; her husband Earl McClanahan, a daughter, Bettymarie and two sons, Earl Douglas "Doug" and Barry Wayne.  Myrtle loved with all her heart, and leaves behind, not only her children, but also her grandchildren and great children, as well as a bounteous number of nieces and nephews; all who are left to mourn their loss.

Myrtle devoted several years of her life to the children who attended Freeburn Elementary School.  While there in her position as teacher's aide, she worked with, cared for and worried about all the students under her watchful protection.  In return, Myrtle felt the love of all those children and co-workers who so reverently refer to her, still to this day, as Miss Myrtle.  Myrtle also sustained her family during a brief family health crisis by caring for those in the last stages of their life at two of the area nursing homes.  She also enjoyed the company of those with whom she worked along with the patrons of the Phelps area post office.

In her seventy-seven years on this earth, Myrtle loved all those she encountered.  She leaves behind a host of family and friends.  She will sadly be missed by all whom she knew and who knew her.

Our hearts are broken.

In lieu of wake services or a funeral, Myrtle requested a private family memorial viewing at the gravesite on Buddy Mounts Cemetery, Majestic, KY.
