Virginia Smith Childress, 68, of Meadowview VA, formerly of Phelps KY, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Pikeville Medical Center. She was born July 14, 1950 in Phelps, KY, a daughter of the late Elder Troy and Vicy Thorpe Casey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Elder Harrison Smith; two sons: Kermit Smith and Keith Edward Smith; one grandson: Toby Smith; four brothers: Reverend Miles Casey, Charles Edward Casey, Ralph Casey, and Billy Harold Casey; five sisters: Gladus Casey, Darlene Casey, Molly Casey, Betty Ethel Smith, and Dorothy Justice.
Virginia was a member of the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church. She will sadly be missed by family and friends, her church family, and one of the best husbands anyone could ever have, Oscar Childress.
Survivors include her husband: Oscar Childress of Meadowview, VA; one daughter: Ellena Lynn Smith of Phelps, KY; six grandchildren: Timmy, Andrea, Audrea, Chasity, Chloe, and Kelsie; two great grandchildren: Colten and Aurora; two sisters: Barbara Kender, Mabeline (Elmer) Anderson, two bothers: Shorty Casey, Rev. Marvin (Yvonne) Casey, and a host of nieces & nephews, friends & family to mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Jones & West Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Stevie Kender , Jimmy Lee Smith, Randall Thornsbury, David Allan Thacker and Ked Stacy officiating.
Burial will follow at the Family Cemetery, Long Fork, Kimper, KY with Christopher Ratliff, Baker miller, William Childress, Logan Childress, Randy Kender, & Timmy Casey serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 Friday and Saturday at the funeral home with special services nightly at 7:00 P.M.
