Loretta Estep Obituary

Loretta Estep 77 of Phelps, KY passed away May 19th, 2023, in Huntington, WV at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.  She was born July 22nd, 1945, a daughter of the late Leonard and Sarah Estep.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded by her brother Frank Estep, sisters Irene Estep, Nancy Casey, and Polly Prater, nephews Randall Casey, and David Estep, he was her favorite and she loved him as her own.

Loretta was a beautiful person inwardly and outwardly who enjoyed reading books and especially the word of God.  She was of the Pentecostal faith.  Loretta always greeted you with a caring voice and never failed to say hello or ask how you or your family were doing.  Loretta always enjoyed watching her favorite tv shows, which included Gunsmoke and spending time with her pets.  She would often spend time talking about her life and the way that she was raised by her father and mother who she loved dearly.  Loretta would also talk about her many brothers and sisters, but Loretta found a soft spot for her favorite nephew David who she loved very deeply.  No matter who you were Loretta could bring a smile to your face and make you feel welcomed whenever you met.  Loretta may be gone from this life but the example she has set for all those who truly knew her will always remain in our hearts.  She set an example of how to live your life as a way to show others that God is always present.  Loretta was truly an angel amongst us to all that took the time to know her and remember her voice, smile, and warmth.  Loretta is finally home with her family and safe in the arms of the Lord.

Those surviving Loretta include a brother, John “J.B.”Estep of Ohio; a sister, Helen Scarberry of Fenton, MI; special nephew, Clifton Casey of Phelps, KY and a host of nieces and nephews.

To honor Loretta’s wishes, cremation is set to take place.  Arrangements are under the direction of Jones & West Funeral Home of Phelps, Kentucky.  The guestbook may be viewed at www.joneswestfh.com.

One of her favorite songs was “Time Made a Change in Me”.

Time has made a change since my childhood days.  Many of my friends have gone away
Some I never more in this life will see.  Time has made a change in me.

Time has made a change in the old home place.  Time has made a change in each smiling face.
And I know my friends can plainly see.  That time has made a change in me.

In my childhood days I was well and strong.  I could climb the hill sides all day long
I am not today what I used to be.  'Cause time has made a change in me.

When I reach my home in that land somewhere.  With my friends who wait to meet me over there. Free from pain and care I'll forever be.  Since time has made a change in me.
