Shelby Jean “Chapman” Fields, 82, of Phelps, KY, entered into rest on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. She was born June 26, 1937, in Freeburn, KY, the daughter of the late Belve and Vicie “Norman” Chapman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Alex Fields Sr.; one son: Alex Fields Jr.; one brother: Carl Jay “J.C.” Chapman; one sister: Grethel Willis; one grandchild: Christopher Alex Fields.
Shelby was a retired cook from both Phelps Elementary and Phelps High School. Cooking was her favorite hobby. She would always make a point for you to eat and was very critical about her food, but it was always delicious. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a strong family person, who was a member of Barnshee Church of God. Shelby also enjoyed long phone conversations with her children and sisters, and some of her favorite past times were watching her game shows on T.V. and going shopping.
Those left to honor her memory include two sons: Aaron (Aletha) Fields of Phelps, KY; Mike (Regina Gail) Fields of Phelps, KY; three sisters: Della Layne of Freeburn, KY; Carlene Chapman of Cleveland, OH; Darlene (Phillip) Mounts of Freeburn, KY; five grandchildren: Bethany Jeshel Fields of Knoxville, TN; Michael Paul Fields of Phelps, KY; Jeffery Fields Jr. of Phelps KY; Aaron Matthew (Andrea) Fields of Lexington KY; Lyndsey Le’Shea Fields of Nashville TN; five great grandchildren: Kaden Blake Hager, Ian Cruze Hager, Maggie Louise Fields, Greyson Alexander Fields, Logan Christopher Booher; a daughter-in-law: Shirley Jean Fields of Knoxville, TN; a special niece who was like a sister: Movita (Roscoe) Church of Freeburn, KY; and a host of nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Jones & West Funeral Home with Reverends Benny Freeman & Bobby Dale Wolford officiating.
Burial will follow in the Wolford Family Cemetery, Phelps, KY.
Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
